Lead Your Shift: Why Settling Is No Longer an Option

A few days ago, I read something that really struck a chord with me: “Let your light shine... Leave any place you find yourself better than you met it.” It reminded me of the quiet power we all carry; the ability to influence the spaces we live and work in, no matter how small.

Feeling Stuck

That idea made me reflect deeply on my own journey. Have you ever felt stuck, like you weren’t enough? I have. For a long time, I carried the weight of constant negativity. There was no one to encourage me, only voices telling me I wasn’t good enough. Eventually, I accepted that belief as true.

I often chose to stay quiet rather than speak up because I felt like I had nothing to say or offer. I would hide in the background, sit at the back of the class, avoid answering questions, and not challenge anyone. I simply did as I was told, even when it didn’t align with my values.

Why I Started This Blog

I started this blog to remind anyone who feels stuck, as I once did, that it’s possible to lead your shift. It’s also a reminder to myself, because I still face those same moments of doubt.

There was a time when I was juggling motherhood, a demanding job, and the fear that I wasn’t reaching my potential. I still face challenges today, but now I refuse to settle for a version of success that feels safe yet unfulfilling. Everything began to change when I decided to stop dimming my light. I often joke with friends that all those years of silence just made me talk more; once I started speaking up, I realised how much I had held back and how much I had to offer. These days, I can be quite talkative, which I like to think is the result of finally finding my voice😊.

Leading Your Shift

Leading your shift means choosing growth over comfort and stepping outside your comfort zone. It’s not just at work, it’s in all areas of life, including friendships. It’s about showing up for yourself with honesty and courage, even when the path is uncertain.

The Bible encourages us to let our light shine before others, so that our good works can be seen and bring glory (Matthew 5:16). Even if you don’t connect with the spiritual meaning, the core message remains: your light is valuable and worth sharing. Too often, it’s easier to settle for comfort or what feels “good enough.” But settling means dimming your light and missing out on the growth and purpose that awaits on the other side of courage.

To every woman reading this, especially those juggling so much, feeling stretched, or doubting their next step, I want to say this:

Don’t settle. Don’t accept average. You have the power to lead your own shift. Step forward with clarity and courage and make meaningful change in your life and community.

Every journey begins with a single step. Lead your shift and let your light shine.
Every journey begins with a single step. Lead your shift and let your light shine.

Here are two practical ways to start leading your shift today:

  • Speak up in your workplace or community: Share your ideas, take on a new responsibility, role, or project, or learn a new skill. Doing so will strengthen you and inspire others to step forward. Your voice matters.

  • Set healthy boundaries in your personal life: Whether with friends, family, or yourself, clearly defining what you will and won’t accept creates space for growth. It protects your energy and allows you to focus on what truly matters.

Research shows that individuals who embrace a growth mindset and take proactive steps to develop themselves tend to experience greater well-being and resilience over time. This supports personal growth and creates a positive ripple effect; inspiring and uplifting the people and environments around them (Kyeong et al., 2024; Bobinet et al., 2025). Leading your shift isn’t about perfection or grand gestures, it’s about everyday choices to shine brighter, lift others as you rise, and leave a positive impact wherever you are.

Here’s what I encourage you to do today:

  • Reflect on where you may have settled or dimmed your light.

  • Imagine the difference you could make by simply being more fully you.

  • Take one small, brave step toward your own growth and purpose.

You are not behind. You are becoming 💗. And I am here with you, cheering you on every step of the way.

Yours truly,

Dr. Kenny
